This trip is a complete exploration of the mythical Lhasa city as well as the Yeti’s favorite home – the site of Mt. Everest Base Camp, the north side in Tibet. It is a tour that truly roams around the ‘Roof of the World’ allowing you to closely experience the life of Tibetan people, feel the greatness of world famous Tibetan Buddhism and enjoy the great vistas passing through the vast grasslands. On these travel days you will be engrossed with Trans-Himalayan flights to sightseeing and excursions of the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, Drepung and Sera Monastery. Lhasa is now a fascinating modern city yet, there are many wonderful things to see and do around, which helps to prove the story of Tibet’s unique past and the intertwining of religion with history. Most of the holy temples retain magic and mysticism and demonstrate the absolute faith in Tibetan Buddhism so integral to the character of the Tibetan people.
This trip is suitable for all who are active and go outdoor trips once in a while. It requires no strenuous trekking. Just drive from view point to view point and bring back to good hotels for the night stop. Ample time is allowed to see, enjoy and for photography. Our guide is very detail to explain everything.
Right now (after the 2015 massif earthquake) the road to Lhasa from Kathmandu via Kodari (the border town) has been halted, but both governments of China and Nepal are doing the best as possible to reestablish it at near future. Then it will be as before to fly in – drive out or vice versa. The one now available is fly in/fly out; that is not very cost effective but as we all know that the trans-Himalayan flights are always fantastic, no matter how many times you fly with, it spellbound fully every time!
Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival/Hotel. Airport pick up and transfer to Hotel. Room allocation is followed by welcome drinks. Little briefing about the day as well as the whole trip. Trip signing up and settle the payment. Passport and photos are collected for the Tibetan/Chinese travel visa process.
Day 02/03: Kathmandu. Hotel. Day 02 is city sightseeing day. It is a guided tour includes the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Boudhnath, Swyambhu Nath etc. Welcome dinner is provided offered in the evening. Day 03: free on your own. You would be doing the thing that you would like to do or you have heard things to do in Kathmandu. You may even choose the Mountain Flight or Day Rafting tour at Trishuli River or even Day Tour to Lumbini etc. as Alpine Exodus tailors.
Day 04: Kathmandu (1,300m) – Lhasa (3,650m) or Arrival in Lhasa/Hotel, Transfer to airport to fly to the Gonggor Airport in Lhasa that takes about an hr & 10 minutes; a superb trans Himalayan flight from Kathmandu; which considered as one of the most beautiful flights in the world. Soon after the take off in Kathmandu valley it enters into the Himalayan vast territory providing a dramatic close views of dozens of gigantic Himalayan peaks among which includes the Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Kanchanjunga (8536m), Mt. Makalu (8463m.), Mt. Cho – Oyu (8201m.) etc. Upon landing at the Gonggor airport in the Tibetan plateau or the ‘Roof of the World’ you will be met by our representative. Then transfer to hotel in Lhasa (about 45km). Upon arrival at Hotel, room check-in is followed by briefing of the day and the whole trip and then a short free time on which you may take a short walk around your hotel on your own.
Day 05-06: In Lhasa: Two Full Days Sightseeing Tour In Lhasa/Hotel,
Visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Bazaar, Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery.
Day 07: Lhasa – Gyantse (3950m) – Shigatse (3900m)/Hotel
Drive to Gyantse via Yamadroke Lake and high passes: Kora LA (5,010m) & Kamba La (4,794m) – Sight-seeing in Gyantse including Pholkor & Kumbum Monastery. PM: scenic drive to Xigatse(1.5hrs) through the typical Tibetan Countryside.
Day 08: Xigatse – Ronbuk (4980m) 334km/Hotel,
AM: Visit Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery. Then Drive to Xegar crossing over Gyatchula (a pass of 5,200m) – Scenic drive to Ronbuk through the beautiful Tibetan countryside. Explore Ronbuk Monastery (highest monastery in the world) – O/N at Guest House
Day 09: Ronbuk – Everest BC – Shigatse (3900m)/Hotel, Hike up to Everest BC and explore around – back to Ronbuk -Drive to Shigatse O/N at Hotel.
Day 10: Shigatse to Lhasa (3600m) 351km/Hotel as before Drive back to Lhasa O/N at Hotel.
Day 11: Lhasa to Kathmandu/Hotel.
Departure from Gonggar airport to Kathmandu. Airport reception and transfer to hotel as before, and day at free. In the evening again Alpine Exodus would like to throw the farewell dinner!
