For the travelers who can not get enough of the adventures and cultures of Dolpo, there is the extended route of Upper Dolpo that takes them through several beautiful villages of this remote Nepal. The trip is an opportunity to soak in more of the cultures of Himalayan tribes and to challenge their physical capacity. Apart from many small settlements, there are two major villages in this route: Shey Gompa and Saldang. There are also two extrem passes that will test your stamina. This trek is full of alpine forests, interspersed with bare mountains. An itinerary outline will be as presented here.

Day 1

Arrive to Kagani

After breakfast we start from Juphal, arrive to Kagani in about 3hrs. This can be the lunch place of today and further 3 hrs trek bring us to Chhepka (2491m). The trek mostly runs along the Phoksindo River providing amazing views of canyons at places. The whole day is a low-land trek passing small settlements such as … and an army camp, the national park check point etc.

Day 2

Trek to Chunwar

Breakfast at camp in the morning and trek starts for Rechi. Lunch here at Rechi (3.5hrs) and. After lunch another 2 hrs trek to Chunwar (3130m). Camp stay for the night. Today also we follow the Phoksindo River passing beautiful places of water cascades, canyons, forests attractions.

Day 3

Trek to Ringmo

After breakfast we leave the camp at Chunwar and walk for View Tower (2.5hrs) – this is mostly uphill trail. This place can be the lunch place as well as it provides the beautiful sight of water fall that is started from Phoksindo Lake. After lunch the trail is plainer and so another an hour trek brings us at Ringmo (3647m). By the Phoksindo lake side, we fix our tents and enjoy the great view of nature.

Upto here if you choose to stay at room, this is possible. So, if there is not tents with you it is fine for trekking to the Phoksindo lake and return.

Day 4

Trek to Ruktang

From Ringmo to Choklapuk (4.5 hrs), lunch place. After another 2.5 hrs trek to Ruktang (3594m), the night stop at tent. The all day is lake view trek. From Ringmo, we have a glorious view of Mt. Kanjirowa. The night stop place is pleasant pine forest area.

Day 5

Trek to Base Camp

As usual we leave the camp only after breakfast. From Ruktang we walk around 4 hrs to arrive at the lunch place. After lunch another 2 hrs trek to Base Camp (4677m) for the night.
Above these 2 nights one has to have tents. There are no teahouses or places one can find room or any kind of eateries.

Day 6

Kangla Pass Area

Breakfast and leave the camp area for the Kangla Pass (2.5hrs/5350m) It involves serious ascending and after the pass slippery descending. If there is snow, it makes the trail particularly difficult. The pass has wonderful view of Mt. Kanjirowa and some other snowy peaks. We will have pack lunch today, unusual to hot lunch on the previous days. After the descend of the Kangla pass, the trail becomes easier to Shey Gompa (4354m/2.5hrs). At this village if you plan to stay at room, it possible. Next day, you may visit around the village exploring the fabled Gompas or monasteries

Day 7/8

Way to Shey Ghumba

Breakfast and leave Shey Gumba having beautiful views the snow peak on our right hand side. On the foot of the peak, there is river which makes a sweeping view along the sun beam. Easier but long trail upto the Base Camp of the Sela Pass (5095m). An inclined ascending to the pass and serious but short descending and gradual lower to the Namgung Gumba (lunch place) that takes 7 hrs. After lunch another 4 hrs trek brings us at Saldang (4085m), here at Saldang if you want to stay at room, is possible. Next day visit around including the Yangjer Gompa if interested.

Day 9

trek to Rhakyo

It is started from Saldang to the Lunch place at Namdo that takes 2 hrs. After lunch another 4.5 hrs trek brings us at Rhakyo (4151m). Stay at camp for the night.

Day 10

Trek at High Camp

From Rhakyo, after breakfast we leave the camp and walking some 3hrs we arrive at lunch place. After lunch another 3 hrs trek brings us at High Camp (4850m). Stay at tent.

Day 11

High Camp to the pass Jyanta La

From High Camp to the pass Jyanta La (5520m/5hrs). We can have the Pack Lunch here. After the pass, its another 2 hrs trek brings us at Dho Tarap (4090m). At Dho, if you want to stay at room, is possible.

Day 12

Trek to Tangum

It is started from Dho Tarap to the Lunch place at Lang that takes 3 hrs. After lunch another 5 hrs trek brings us at Tangum (3586m). At Tangum one can find a room if want to stay instead of tent.

Day 13

Trak to Lashikyap

From Tangum to the Lunch place at Laini Odar, takes 5 hrs. After lunch another 2 hrs trek brings us at Lashikyap (2718m). Stay at tent or lodge.

Day 14

Trek to Dunai

From Lashikyap to the Lunch place at Shahar Tara that takes 3.5 hrs. After lunch another 4 hrs trek brings us at Dunai (2095m). Stay at tent of lodge.

Day 15

Dunai to Juphal Trek

From Dunai to Juphal (4hrs) trek. Stay at lodge is better for the farewell dinner and crew members’ celebration.

NOTE: this program requires minimum 4 more days for Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and to Juphal by flight and on return after the trek. So, a time frame of 19 days will be the minimum require time. We send you detail itinerary upon request.

  • Airport pick up/transfer as program,
  • Hotel in Kathmandu and in Nepalgunj with full board meals,
  • Kathmandu city tour (half day tour with guide and transport),
  • Kathmandu to Nepalgunj [and back to Kathmandu] transport on the privately reserved Toyota van with air condition,
  • Nepalgunj to Juphal and return by flight,
  • Full board trek with mountain basic lodge accommodation (lodge+meals),
  • All trek permits and National park entry permits,
  • 1 guide, assistant/s depending on the group size, porters including meals, daily allowance, work insurance etc.
  • Welcome/farewell dinners are provided at the traditional Nepali restaurants with cultural shows,
  • Services of fresh fruits, boiled drinking water, tea, coffee cookies,
