Combining the legendary Everest Base Camp valley with the serene beauty of the Gokyo Valley and the thrilling crossing of the high Cho La Pass (5420 m/17780 ft), this trek offers the very best of the Everest region in a single unforgettable journey.
The adventure begins along the world-famous Everest Base Camp route, following the roaring Dudh Koshi River through vibrant Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, colorful prayer flags and rhododendron forests before reaching the iconic base of the world's highest mountain. Standing beneath the towering south face of Mount Everest is a moment every trekker dreams of.
From the classic trail, the journey becomes even more extraordinary as it crosses the dramatic Cho La Pass, where glaciers, towering ice walls and rugged alpine landscapes create an exhilarating Himalayan experience. The pass serves as a magnificent gateway between two of the Khumbu's most beautiful valleys, rewarding trekkers with breathtaking panoramas at every step.
Beyond the pass lies the enchanting Gokyo Valley, a hidden Himalayan paradise renowned for its chain of shimmering turquoise glacial lakes, peaceful villages, and pristine mountain scenery. The ascent of Gokyo Ri (5357 m/17573 ft) is another unforgettable highlight, offering what many experienced trekkers consider the finest panoramic viewpoint in the Everest region. From its summit, four of the world's highest mountains—Everest (8848.86 m/29028 ft), Lhotse (8516 m/27936 ft), Makalu (8485 m/27834 ft) and Cho Oyu (8188 m/26860 ft)—rise above a sea of snow-covered peaks, glaciers and the immense Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal.
Unlike the standard Everest Base Camp trek, this journey reveals two distinctly different faces of the Khumbu. One is alive with bustling Sherpa settlements, historic monasteries and the famous trail to Everest Base Camp; the other is tranquil, untouched and filled with crystal-clear lakes reflecting the surrounding Himalayan giants. Together, they create a perfect balance of adventure, natural beauty and cultural discovery.
Designed with carefully planned acclimatization days, experienced local guides and a comfortable trekking pace, this itinerary maximizes both safety and enjoyment. Whether you seek dramatic mountain landscapes, authentic Sherpa culture, pristine alpine lakes or the achievement of crossing one of the Everest region's most celebrated high passes, the Everest Base Camp & Gokyo Lakes Trek via Cho La Pass delivers an experience that exceeds expectations.
