Welcome to the Land of the Thunder Dragon, a small Himalayan kingdom where Buddhist traditions, beautifully preserved architecture and spectacular mountain landscapes remain an integral part of everyday life. This 4-day introductory journey from Kathmandu brings you to Paro and Thimphu, offering a fascinating first glimpse of Bhutan's culture, history and Himalayan way of life.

The adventure begins even before landing in Bhutan. The Kathmandu–Paro flight is one of the most exciting short-haul flights in the Himalayas. As you take off Kathmandu, the great Himalayan chain appears right next to your window. A mesmerizing panorama; that includes some of the world's highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kangchenjunga, along with numerous other snow-covered summits stretching across Nepal, Sikkim- Tibet and Bhutan. The approach to Paro is particularly memorable: the aircraft enters the narrow Paro Valley, surrounded by steep forested high-hills, before making the carefully navigated landing at Paro Airport. The flight is not simply a means of reaching Bhutan; it is an unforgettable Himalayan experience in its own right.

Paro is a beautiful valley of green fields, traditional Bhutanese houses, pine-covered hills and important Buddhist monuments. After landing, our Bhutanese guide welcomes you at the airport and the journey begins with an introduction to the country's distinctive culture and architecture.

Although four days can only provide an introduction, this journey captures several of the experiences that make Bhutan so distinctive: a spectacular trans-Himalayan flight, the historic valley of Paro, centuries-old Buddhist temples and dzongs, the peaceful atmosphere of Thimphu, and the dramatic mountain environment surrounding both valleys.
