The first successful summit on the Island Peak (6179m/20270ft) was made in the same year when Mt. Everest was climbed by Tenzin Norgey and Edmond Hillary successfully. So, the climbing on Island Peak is like a traditional activity for the mountaineers.

A stunning summit with challenging technical climbing route soars just above the massif Imja Glacier in the Imja Valley, after Chhukung village of Dingboche valley. Most of the climbing parties summit the peak starting from the Base Camp that is at Parsiya Gyabb (4970m/16303ft)- a pleasant grassy area situated on the northern bank of Imja Glacier. Less acclimatized climbing parties may reach to High Camp (5500m/18042ft) on the next day if they have to break the jounrey between the summit to BC. But starting from BC, its 6-8hrs journey to the summit depending how fast or slow the team is. The starting time normally is 2am from the BC and if you’re in the HC, you can start between 3 to 4am.

After the summit, it’s 3-5hrs descending to BC and on the same day to Chhukung arrive is possible.
