Makalu Base Camp trek is regarded as one of the most enjoyable and adventurous treks in Nepal which combines all kinds of geographical attractions available in Nepal. The trek begins from Terai Region (when you take the longer course) and passing through the middle hilly region it enters into the great Himalayan area. From the trek everyday you are sure to have a great panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, unique tribal settlements, beautifully scenic riverbeds and narrow valleys and dunes, cascades and waterfalls, pasture lands and grazing areas etc. The plain area (Terai region) is found with Indian influence in day to day life whereas the middle hills are settled by almost all casts and tribes of Nepal. The Himalayan area as all over in Nepal settled by famous mountaineers – Sherpas! The trek can be started by taking a flight or drive from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. And onward to Tumlingtar are the same options, flight or drive. After the town of Tumlingtar on the dry seasons jeeps shorten a day trek in an hour or so drive, but the roads are not of all seasonal. After all we are here for trek, so calling a jeep is not a good idea to everyone. Taking flight saves great amount of time and comfort but cost considerably goes up. Driving all the way from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar takes about 2 days. But good thing of taking the drive is you would be enjoying the representative views of Nepal and get to travel with your supporting team such as guide, assistant, porters, etc. A bigger group of above 10 people, may make a charter flight of an airplane of Nepal Airlines directly to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu at reasonable price. If this can happen, then you save a great amount of time even much more than taking the flight to Biratnagar from Kathmandu and to Talejung from Biratnagar. For the bigger group (above 10 people), even the airfare of taking direct flight to Tumlingntar is similar than the one of KTM–BIR–TML. We have highly experienced guides who have been into this route for many times and some of them even come from the Makalu village. They are the local expertise you would like to have on your team. See you soon on Makalu B.C. trek… Namaste!
